We use Matomo, which runs on our own server, to see how the site is used so we can improve it. IP addresses are stored shortened, "Do Not Track" is respected and nothing goes to third parties. Without your consent the measurement runs entirely without cookies; with consent Matomo sets the two cookies below.

Name	Purpose	Duration	Type
`_pk_id.7.…`	Recognises returning visitors anonymously (random identifier).	13 months	Cookie
`_pk_ses.7.…`	Groups the page views of one visit.	30 minutes	Cookie

External content (only if you use it)

These contents set no cookies. However, your browser connects to the respective provider, who then sees your IP address:

Maps (hotspot map, species map, blog): map tiles from OpenStreetMap, depending on the view also from Esri (satellite) or OpenTopoMap.
Videos in blog posts: YouTube and Vimeo are only loaded after your click.
Mushroom AI: photos you upload are sent to an AI service (Google Gemini) for analysis.

You can change your selection at any time under "Cookie settings" in the footer of the site. More in the privacy policy
