Understanding mushroom weather: how the forecast works
Mushrooms do not appear by chance. The actual fungus lives as a fine network (mycelium) in the soil and only forms fruiting bodies when water, warmth and season fit together. That is exactly what the Waldschatzfinder mushroom forecast calculates for your area: it evaluates the weather of the past 90 days and the 10-day forecast – rainfall, temperature and humidity – and shows you day by day how good the chances are.
Heavy rain matters most: after strong rainfall it usually takes one to two weeks until mushrooms appear. Heat, drought and frost slow growth down. That is why the forecast looks back as well as ahead.

Frequently asked questions
What is mushroom weather?
Weather in which mushrooms grow well: after heavy rain, with mild temperatures of roughly 10 to 20 °C, moist soil and no frost or long heat. The forecast combines these factors for your area.
How long after rain do mushrooms grow?
Usually one to two weeks after heavy rain (about 12 mm in two days). The mycelium needs time to form fruiting bodies, so the forecast includes the rain of the past weeks.
Is the mushroom forecast free?
Yes. The basic forecast works without an account. A free account adds the Pro forecast, species map, mushroom AI, mushroom alert and your own blog – no subscription.
How accurate is the forecast?
It is a model calculation from weather data, not a guarantee of finds. Local microclimate, soil and forestry play a role. As a guide to when a trip is worthwhile, it is very helpful.
