Sweet chestnut

Castanea sativa

Long, narrow leaves with coarsely toothed, spiny edges. The edible chestnuts sit two or three together in a very prickly husk. Bark often spirally twisted with age. Porcini and chanterelles grow in chestnut forests – classic mushroom areas in Italy and Ticino.
