About Waldschatzfinder.de

A personal project, born out of passion

My name is Axel Jerabek. As a CTO in an IT company, I spend a large part of my professional life on complex systems and process automation. But my true passion lies outside the office: in nature. As an avid nature lover and mushroom collector, I wanted to build a bridge between these two worlds.

On my mushroom hunts, which often took me eight hours into the Alps, planning was the biggest time sink. Manually searching for the right locations and weather conditions was inefficient and tedious. From this realization, the idea for Waldschatzfinder.de was born: a platform that simplifies planning for me and other foragers and significantly increases the chances of success.

From the sky to the forest

My fascination with the weather is deeply rooted. For ten years, I was a passionate glider pilot in the Alps. This experience has given me a special understanding of meteorological contexts and the importance of precise weather data. As a private pilot license holder, I know how crucial proper preparation is. I have incorporated this knowledge into the development of the analyses and AI models for Waldschatzfinder.de.

A family that loves nature

My personal happiness is closely tied to nature. Together with my Finnish-Swedish wife and our two children, we often spend summers at our lake house in Finland. There, we live what Waldschatzfinder.de aims to make possible in Germany: we forage for mushrooms and berries and fish ourselves, right outside the door—a true paradise.

These experiences are the driving force for making nature and its treasures accessible and experiential for others.

Waldschatzfinder.de is more than just a technical application. It is the result of a deep connection to nature, combined with the desire to share this love and the joy of discovery with others.
