Your first hike

Hiking for beginners

New to hiking in the forest or hills? This tour is deliberately short, easy and well marked, with a view as the reward – and we already check the things beginners easily miss while planning.

What we check for you automatically

Weather on the routerain along the way, whether the path might be slippery after rain
Light and darknesswhen it gets dark, so you are back in time
Places that are opencafés and huts with known opening hours for your arrival
Car park and getting therestart at the right car park, with navigation to get there

What we do not promise

The tour helps you prepare and shows in advance what matters. It still cannot replace your own judgement of the route, the weather and your own ability; that stays with you.

Frequently asked questions

How hard is the beginner hike?

Deliberately easy: a short distance (around 6 km), little climbing, on well marked paths. The planner can still be adjusted afterwards if the suggestions turn out too easy or too long for you.

Do I need special gear or experience?

No, sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing are enough to start with. What else is useful is on our hiking page.

What does the tour check for me automatically?

Weather on the route, when it gets dark, whether a hut along the way is open when you arrive, and whether the path might be slippery after rain – the things beginners easily miss.

Does this cost anything?

No, you can plan the tour for free without signing up. With a free account you can also edit, save and take it with you.

What if I want a mountain, not just the forest?

For that there is the “First summit” idea in the planner – a reachable peak with a summit cross, moderate paths instead of alpine terrain.
