Mushroom alert FAQ

What does the mushroom alert cost?

Nothing. The mushroom alert comes with a free Waldschatzfinder account – no subscription, no ads.

How often does the mushroom alert check?

Every morning around 5 a.m., as soon as the new mushroom forecast has been calculated. If the chance at one of your places reaches your threshold, you get a message – in time before you head into the forest.

Which mushrooms does the alert cover?

For each of the more than 30 species in the mushroom forecast, such as porcini, chanterelle or bay bolete – or for the beginner traffic light, which notifies you as soon as it turns green at your place.

Will I get constant emails?

No. By default the alert only appears in the bell on the site. Emails are sent only if you explicitly switch them on, and you can turn them off any time in your profile.

Does an alert mean there are definitely mushrooms?

No. The alert is based on a model calculation from weather, soil and forest data – it tells you when conditions are good, not that you will find something. And even after an alert: take nothing you don't know for sure, nothing old, and if in doubt ask a mushroom expert.

🛡️ The three rules always apply: take nothing you don't know for sure. Nothing old – overripe mushrooms can cause "false" mushroom poisoning. Identify reliably first, if in doubt ask a mushroom expert, then cook and eat. The mushroom alert is a model calculation without any guarantee of finds; you are responsible for what you pick and eat.
