Look-alikes

  • Poison hemlock – Very poisonous! Stem is purple-spotted and the plant smells unpleasantly of mice. Ground elder has three-angled leaf stalks.
  • Cowbane – Extremely poisonous, smells of celery. Ground elder does not.
  • Fool's parsley – Strongly poisonous. Check for three-angled leaf stalks and smell.

Plants are hints, not guarantees. Mushrooms only grow where weather, soil and trees fit together.
